Caipirinha

Caipirinha

Not the easiest cocktail to pronounce but easily one of the most famous cocktails ever.  Think of it as a cousin of daiquiri.  It has the lime, the sugar, but cachaça is a Brazilian rum with a very raw taste. Trust me, you are going to need a lot of lime and sugar to kill the roughness of the cachaça if you are not using one of the better brands.  Depending on where you live, you might not have a wide selection of cachaça to choose from, you might just have one. If you cannot find it at all, try rhum agricole which has a similar grassy and raw taste.  If that taste is a bit too much for you, try it with light rum (known as Caipirissima) or even vodka, which is then called a Caipiroska.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 ounces or 60 ml of Cachaça
  • 1 whole lime, quartered
  • white sugar

Add the 4 pieces of half a lime to a heavy double rocks glass, add sugar, muddle, add ice, add cachaça, stir well and serve. No garnish needed since the lime pieces are already in the cocktail.
