Pupule

Pupule

Created by Don the Beachcomber (Donn Beach) around 1934. It is an unpublished recipe from a private notebook of an employee by the name of Dick Santiago. This is an early versions of what would eventually become the Nui Nui in 1937 (CREDIT: Beachbum Berry’s TOTAL TIKI app).  This extra ounce of rum is a bit much, tasty, but overpowering if you use the St. Elizabeth Allspice Dram, and that is an additional half ounce of spirits at nearly 46 Proof. The spices really come ringing through.  Not balanced, but certainly tasty and powerful.

  • 3 ounces Virgin Islands Rum
  • 1/2 Fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 Fresh orange juice
  • 1/4 cinnamon syrup
  • 1/4 Don’s Spices #2 (equal parts Pimento liqueur + vanilla syrup)
  • Angostura bitters
  • Orange spiral peel garnish
