Raines Law Room

Raines Law Room

An authentic speakeasy which was in operation since Prohibition, is Raines Law Room on 17th Street in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.  You actually have to go down a level, and ring a bell before you can even enter.  Once inside, you will see the place is barely untouched from the way it was a hundred years ago during Prohibition of the 1920s. The space is quiet, and private. In face, if you want service, you have to ring a bell on the wall for someone to come over to take your order.

There is good reason for this. They respect your privacy, there are even private booths. But the other reason is the menus can be quite extensive.  Not just a few cocktails, but a few dozen.  They range from the classics, to the vintage and forgotten, and even into tiki and tropical.

I love this place. It is truly like stepping back into time. It is a quiet “safe place” for those who want classic cocktails in a vintage setting without a noisy crowd.
